Hompage  Dichotomous Key

This is a site that can be used by Computing Teachers in the Queensland Education System.  These are a series of ideas that can be expanded into either an individual lesson plan, or into a series of plans or just an assessment piece.

Big Ideas:

1. Designing a Business Website - Students are to get in contact with a local business, firstly to ask if they'd like their website to be either made or revamped, and then to negotiate what they would like, in a business/client relationship.

2. Software/Hardware Review - Students would be required to choose their favorite piece of software or hardware and research/evalute it and write a formal review to go into a computer magazine column.

3. Create and Maintain a Basic Intranet - Create and maintain an intranet for the high school staff.  This is so that senior students can leave behind a piece of themselves when they graduate.  It will be designed so that future senior students can continually update it to suit the school's needs.

4. Workbook Activities - Students will be given a variety of activities to complete by using the internet.  An example of included activities is to evaluate a web site from a given list by the teacher, and composing a email message to send feedback to the author(s).

Lesson Plans:

Computers in the Workplace

Hardware
1. Learning The Language - This lesson is to get the students to understand some of the terminology used in Computer Science for this particular unit, involving groups discussion and internet games created by me using an account with QUIA (Quintessential Instructional Archive) and if there is time (or in case of exceptional students) get the class to create their own game, using QUIA.
Resources - Teachers to go to the Quintessential Instructional Archive to perhaps make their
                        own games.
                      - Students to go to the Online Games page.

2. Input Devices - Students will get to know what type of devices are used to input data into the computer and how this is done, and also how the output devices display the relevant processed data.

3. Output Devices and Hardware Componants - Students will learn about output devices and some of the consumables in an office environment.  Students will also be looking at the guts of an old computer (in groups) and also doing some activities in which they will learn more about computer systems.

4. Case Studies 1 - Students will use Case studies to see what type of businesses need what specific type of hardware is most beneficial to the businesses, using the internet or catalogues to look up prices for individual hardware equipment.
 - refer to the Case Studies page.

5. Case Studies 2 - Students will continue looking at the case studies, but this time they will also be learning about the software side of things, finishing off their case study questions.
 - refer to the Case Studies page.

6. End of Unit Quiz - This is just a short lesson, where students will be quizzed on ramdom knowledgesof what has been happening over the last two weeks (6 lessons).
